KJ and Paige Glennon never wanted traditional careers. “We’re entrepreneurially wired,” KJ says. “Paige’s family has always been in business for themselves, and we never wanted conventional jobs. We wanted the freedom that you get when you’re responsible for your own future, and we decided that business ownership was the right fit for us.”

KJ and Paige were already successful multi-unit owners with Jimmy John’s when the opportunity to buy seven existing Papa Murphy’s locations became available. As longtime fans of the brand, the couple jumped at the chance.

“The people we bought our Papa Murphy’s franchise locations from are people I’ve known since the third grade,” KJ says. “We got to speak with them extensively about their experience as owners, and we were truly impressed by what they told us. These businesses were in great shape when we took over, and now, we’re focusing on growing them. I’ve always loved Papa Murphy’s product – and I knew that it would be something we would be proud to serve to our community.”

The couple’s commitment to their community is evident in how they manage their stores and take care of their employees. They emphasize continued training and a laser-focus on guest service to ensure that every guest feels welcome.

“KJ is very active in the stores,” Paige says. “We want to create a culture of support for our employees, because we know that if they feel taken care of, they will take care of our guests. Our main job as owners is to make the stores enjoyable to be in, and to truly get to know our guests. We want to build community, and we want our guests to think about us when they think about eating pizza with their families.”

Winning together by being there for each other

KJ and Paige discovered that the secret to being married and owning multiple businesses together is always having each other’s back. The couple recognizes that they have very different skill-sets and their successful partnership is the result of giving each other space to shine in their different roles.

“We get asked all the time, ‘What’s it like working with your spouse?’” Paige says. “The truth is, for us, it’s not that difficult. We know what our roles are and we know how to communicate. If things aren’t working, we make a change. We know that we share the same goals, and we have the same vision for the future.”

Now, as the couple focuses on growing their take-n-bake pizza and sandwich businesses, they get to realize what they wanted most of all: making time for family. KJ and Paige have a young daughter, and being able to provide a great life for her, as well as always being there for her, is what being in business is all about.

“We have a five year old daughter and she knows that we make pizza and sandwiches – she’s awesome,” KJ says. “We get to be there for her, and we take a lot of time to be together as a family. By showing her that we work hard, and by owning businesses that we’re proud of, I think we’re a great example to her. We couldn’t be more excited about the future.”
