Papa Murphy’s Franchise Launches Virtual Franchise Education Sessions

The global pandemic changed everything overnight, and while life is slowly returning to normal, one change will remain with us forever: how we speak to each other.

Forbes recently published an article entitled, “In the Post-Covid World, Zoom is Here to Stay,” which speaks to how video meetings and conferencing have revolutionized our ability to communicate with one another. We no longer have to travel long distances to be face to face, and this has greatly enhanced our ability to make connections and forge relationships.

Papa Murphy’s, the iconic take-n-bake pizza franchise, has leveraged video conferencing to vastly improve our franchise education and qualification process. Historically, our process was always held over the phone and culminated with in person visits to our our headquarters in Vancouver, Washington for Confirmation Day, but when travel halted during the pandemic, we created a virtual process that provides a ton of advantages to candidates.

“As we transitioned to the virtual format, we also audited our process and looked for ways to provide value to our candidates,” says Shemar Pucel, Director of Franchise Sales. “We wanted to make sure we could share all of the ins and outs of our franchise system in a fun interactive format. We didn’t want candidates to be forced to watch mini informercials as a way to receive the information they needed. We wanted the new process to be interactive and live!

Now candidates have an opportunity to meet more of the support team members and ask them specific questions about the services they provide. These one on one sessions are interactive, our guests can ask additional questions as needed ensuring they have a full understanding of how our training program works, or what happens during the construction phase. The best part is being able to host all members of their family for the final step in our process, Confirmation Day. Now that our prospective franchisees don’t have to travel, candidates get a chance to speak to all of the key members of our executive team from the comfort of their home. This means that they get their questions answered, and we can provide a much deeper understanding of the opportunity.”

Papa Murphy’s has experienced strong growth throughout 2020 and welcomed dozens of entrepreneurs to our virtual Confirmation Day. The experience has been overwhelmingly positive for both our candidates and our executive team.

“Our candidates find it value-added,” Pucel says. “We can cover a lot of ground in a shorter amount of time. We can also meet their families and the people that will be a part of their business. Oftentimes, if a candidate is married, their spouse was not be able to attend Confirmation Day because they’re watching the kids or cannot take off of work, but this allows everyone to be involved through each step of the process.”

The access to everyone on our executive team as well as the various support team members means that candidates can better gauge our culture.

“We’re passionate about our culture, and we’re careful as to who we welcome into our franchise family,” Pucel says. “We want to franchise with people that love our brand, our food, and their communities – and by being able to introduce our candidates to everyone on our team, it gives us a deeper insight into whether or not we’re a good fit for each other.
