Franchising With Papa Murphy’s For Over 25 Years
With a background in food management and accounting, Jim and Pam Wolfe were primed to thrive with a Papa Murphy’s franchise. Since they’ve had experience with the brand before becoming franchise owners, taking the leap to business ownership just made sense. Now, over 25 years later and 9 franchise units, Jim and Pam have spent half their lives with Papa Murphy’s and couldn’t be happier. Keep reading to hear their full story.
What do you like most about your experience with Papa Murphy’s?
We love the product! Papa Murphy’s was a smaller company when we became owners, and we were excited to open the first store in Minnesota. Minnesota quickly became a great market for Papa Murphy’s, and we were excited to grow with the brand in Minnesota.
What does a typical day look like for you?
As a multi-unit owner, our day looks different from that of a single store owner. Our typical day has certainly changed over the 25 years due to time in business and number of locations.
Currently, we focus on the accounting, marketing, HR, development and oversee the store operations team.
What are some marketing campaigns that have worked well for your franchises?
TV has always been a great avenue of marketing. We have seen digital campaigns improve sales over the more recent years. Customer Appreciation Days are always a good way to bring in our current guests as well as new guests. Halloween and Valentine’s Day promotions are more successful when we put additional marketing efforts behind them. We have a local company that has great relationships with the local school program directors. Also, we have a Papa Murphy’s card that is used for the local school and sports programs focusing on building community relationships and supporting our local schools.
How does the Papa Murphy’s franchise team support you?
We get great support from our PMI team. We have spent many years building relationships with our Franchisor. We invest time in building the business together, while having open, honest conversations.
What advice would you give to new Papa Murphy’s franchise owners?
Be ready to work with a younger generation of employees, which can bring great rewards as you watch them grow up in the business. Business is always changing, and we would advise being willing to change as the business changes, while keeping the bigger picture in mind. Get involved in your local market and get to know your neighboring franchisees. We can learn so much from one another!
What are your plans for growth?
We have seen changes and experienced many highs and lows of being franchise owners! We love working this business together and are so thankful to be part of Papa Murphy’s. We have certainly been blessed as Papa Murphy’s franchisees. This business has provided us with a good life while serving food to our communities. We hope to continue being profitable franchise owners, with hopes of being market leaders in sales and operations.
